About the Role
United Systems is seeking a Sales Engineer (SE) to bridge the gap between technical delivery and business development. The Sales Engineer plays a key role in translating client business needs into accurate, actionable, and profitable technical solutions. Working closely with Account Executives, Project Managers, and Service Delivery teams, this role ensures precision, consistency, and efficiency across Managed IT, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Account Executives to qualify technical requirements during discovery and client consultations.
- Translate business objectives into technical architectures and scopes of work that align with client needs and company capabilities.
- Develop accurate, standardized Statements of Work (SOWs), Bills of Material (BOMs), and proposal documentation.
- Present and explain technical solutions to clients in clear, business-friendly language.
- Collaborate with Service Operations and Project Delivery teams to validate scope accuracy, effort estimates, and resource planning.
- Maintain and refine solution templates, scope libraries, and pricing calculators to improve quoting efficiency.
- Review project outcomes and profitability to enhance future scope precision and reduce margin erosion.
- Serve as subject matter expert for infrastructure, cloud, and cybersecurity solution offerings.
- Act as the escalation point for technical validation of large or complex opportunities.
- Leverage internal systems to manage opportunities and meet SLA targets for SOW delivery and project handoffs.
- Maintain a SOW/BOM accuracy rate within target (<10% variance between estimated and actual hours or materials).
- Stay current on certifications and technical expertise across the company’s solution stack (e.g., Microsoft, Datto, SentinelOne, Cisco).
Expectations
- Collaborate effectively across Sales, Service, and Delivery teams to ensure project accuracy and client satisfaction.
- Deliver complete, accurate, and on-time technical documentation.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Take ownership of process improvements that enhance sales efficiency and project profitability.
- Uphold professionalism, responsiveness, and accountability in all client and internal interactions.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- SOW Accuracy: less than 10% variance between scoped and actual project delivery.
- Throughput: Meet or exceed target turnaround time for SOW/BOM completion.
- Conversion Rate: Improve the close ratio of scoped projects.
- Gross Margin: Maintain alignment between scoped and actual margins.
- Stakeholder Satisfaction: Achieve positive feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
Technical Proficiencies
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in IT Managed Services, Systems Engineering, or Sales Engineering.
- Strong understanding of MSP solution stacks (networking, cloud, cybersecurity, endpoint management).
- Proven ability to create client-ready documentation and deliverables from technical requirements.
- Proficiency in PSA, quoting, and documentation tools (e.g., Autotask, ConnectWise, Quoter).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify technical concepts.
Preferred:
- Experience working directly with sales teams or in pre-sales engineering roles.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, or CMMC.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft 365, Azure Administrator, Cisco CCNA, or CompTIA Security+.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to handle equipment, talk, hear, read, write, and interpret documents.
- Occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodations).
