Job Description

The Nevada System of Education (NSHE) is recruiting for a driven Administrative Assistant 2 for the NSHE, System Administration Office Reno, Nevada.

The Administrative Assistant 2 is the first point of contact for the Nevada System of Higher Education, System Administration Office in Reno. This position is responsible for greeting and assisting visitors, guests, and the general public in a professional and welcoming manner, as well as managing a multi-line phone system by answering, screening, and directing calls while providing accurate information as needed. The Administrative Assistant 2 will coordinate a wide range of office activities, including maintaining supplies and equipment, monitoring vendor invoices, handling incoming and outgoing mail, and organizing files and records to support smooth workflow.

Additional responsibilities include scheduling and setting up meeting rooms, assisting with events, and ensuring compliance with open meeting laws through timely posting of agendas. The role also involves maintaining office security procedures and performing occasional work-related errands. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing a positive and professional experience for all who interact with the NSHE System Administration office.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR

  • One (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

A valid class "C" driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with Microsoft Office Suite and Workday experience are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 25

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
