Senior Director – Knowledge Management (Grade H)

Description:

We are seeking a dynamic results driven Knowledge Management Leader to join the Global Service Delivery team. As the Knowledge Management Leader, your role will be to constantly assess, evolve and lead a holistic KM strategy and operations for Mercer and in alignment to the firm’s priorities and ever-evolving needs. You engage the firm’s senior leaders and functional partners to proactively plan for and execute critical Executive Leadership (EL)-sponsored initiatives with KM solutions in constantly changing ecosystem, more driven by AI/GAI solutions. You know what is needed to deliver today and anticipate the work of the future for tomorrow and respond quickly to just-in-time client needs. You ensure Mercer stays ahead of its competitors as assessed by its KM Maturity and ability to deliver leading-edge knowledge solutions. You engage in MMC activities for both KM planning and project-specific commercial and thought leadership activities. You ensure the underlying processes and workflows both result from and lead to standardization, digital transformation, and harmonization. You coach the Innovators and KM Hub Manager so the strategy is executed on and becomes part of routine KM service delivery. You lead the Mercer KM team so it executes on those priorities, in partnership with the KM Leadership team.

What can you expect?

  • KM Strategy: Setting and reviewing the KM strategy in line with Mercer Practice-specific priorities; constantly reassessing projects in flight and on the horizon needing KM solutions and resourcing.
  • Anticipating digital transformation needs, innovation and leading-edge KM processes, oftentimes in partnership with KM Innovation & Enablement Leader. Lean into AI/GAI knowledge solutions and new ways of working that advance Mercer’s and KM’s maturity.
  • Assessing KM maturity and other evaluations to ensure external review and new thinking is always included in Mercer’s KM strategy. Developing business cases to propose new solutions with leadership support, as a means to advance KM maturity.
  • Cross-MMC partnerships: Managing across MMC businesses for KM planning, KM networking and completing project requests.
  • Program management: Program managing/project managing EL/senior sponsored projects requiring x-Practice, x-region, and x-function coordination. Negotiating and facilitating, influencing in complex projects and decisions across the firm; involving KM team at the right level and at the right time to deliver work.
  • KM Governance: Driving a KM governance model for global Mercer initiatives; using data and metrics to draw insights leading to decisions; tied to transformation & technology & innovation communication and change management; instilling a governance framework that focuses on lean, outcomes-focused, business results.
  • KM team model: Overseeing overall KM team model including people management, staffing needs, hiring, career development plans in partnership with HR business partner and KM leadership team.
  • KM budget: Preparing and managing multi-million-dollar KM budget; reviewing P&L, forecasting and reforecasting with Finance.
  • Subscription management: Overseeing third-party research tool contracts and timelines, making renewal decisions with information professional/subscription manager, supporting negotiations with Mercer colleagues and vendors.
  • Strategic partnerships: Partnering with a range of teams who either produce or publish content, to ensure business needs match proposed solutions, with KM integrated into the desired state and execution plans using established content management best practices.
  • External brand: Representing Mercer KM on external channels to build reputation, credibility, and brand for Mercer’s KM program; frequently publishing external findings to KM and business stakeholders, and vice versa, publishing Mercer findings with external organizations.

We will count on you to:

  • Deep understanding of MMC and Mercer’s services, consulting business, clients’ needs, marketplace issues. Able to proactively anticipate business needs.
  • Able to drive change; can overcome obstacles resulting from diverse opinions and has grit to persevere.
  • Strategic advisor to matters beyond KM to KM’s sponsor – contributes to broader business discussions and strategic business decisions. Org changes with a knowledge component, complex M&As, future of work advisory.

What you need to have: 

  • MBA from a premier business school or equivalent degree
  • 17+ years of experience in Knowledge Management, with significant experience of working in Professional Services Firm.
  • Forward-thinking and digitally-savvy in designing and implementing KM programs and processes, more and more in an AI-driven environment.
  • Budget management; P&L oversight; financial accountability.
  • People leader, manager of managers. Able to develop, mentor and engage high performing teams. Ability to delegate.
  • Strong relationship building/relationship management skills to establish rapport, trust, and confidence with diverse teams. Able to synthesize complex needs/solutions.
  • Agile in approach to work, able to prioritize based on changing business landscape.
  • Strong execution, energy and focus to achieve KM performance targets and results.
  • Executive presence, influencer, negotiator, persuasive communicator and skilled at stakeholder management.
  • Able to program manage with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, cross-functional stakeholders and remote teams.
  • Strong presentation and influencing skills, use data and insights to tell the story.
