SUMMARY
The Accounting Specialist will provide payroll and general ledger support to ensure timely and accurate reporting. This position contributes to the continuous development of efficiencies of accounting processes and procedures. Maintains confidentiality of payroll and benefit information and all other financial information in compliance with accounting standards and company procedures and policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include other duties as assigned.
- Prepares and processes all payroll functions. Ensures that the calculation of earnings and deductions are accurate and completed in a timely manner in compliance with Federal, State, local laws, cooperative policy and Bargaining Unit Agreements.
- Responsible for ensuring that federal and state payroll reports are filed timely and accurately. Organizes journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts.
- Responsible for year-end accurate and timely reporting of Employee W-2’s, W-3’s and other year-end tax reporting requirements.
- Assist in maintaining the general ledger by preparing, reviewing, and reconciling accuracy of entries to the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate reconciliation of all bank accounts.

- Assists with preparation of accounting/financial analysis and reports.
- Prepares documents and provides support in the preparation of tax filings and reports.
- Provides support for the annual financial audit or other financial audits as needed.
- Aids in the preparation and analysis of annual budgets.
- Helps with the preparation of loan documents.
- Archives departmental documents and records electronically that are relevant to the position or as directed.
- Provides accounting services to subsidiary and related organizations as required and directed.
- Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation in the workplace.
- Conducts themselves in a manner that reflects well on UEC and contributes to harmonious relations with members and the general public.
- Respectfully takes direction from supervisor and/or manager.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Associate's degree in Accounting or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Five (5) or more years related accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
- Prior Accounting Specialist experience in similar environment strongly desired.
- Strong communication skills. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Strong Math skills needed to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest commissions and percentages.
- Must be adept at using various computer applications including database, spreadsheet, word processing and email. Financial Software (Quickbooks) experience preferred as well as strong data entry skills.
- Strong organization skills and the ability to multitask.
- Valid driver’s license is preferred for occasional business travel.
