EMH&T has an opportunity for an experienced environmental scientist/ecologist/biologist to join our multi-faceted team of environmental professionals and civil engineers located in Columbus, OH.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, communicate and adhere to company and division processes, procedures, standards and the promotion of company culture and core values.
- Leverage your knowledge and experience with wetland/stream delineations, ecological surveys, and freshwater mussel surveys.
- Contribute and author technical reports, waterway permit applications, and other environmental compliance documents.
- Ensure civil engineering projects comply with environmental regulations and standards set by local, state, and federal authorities.
- Interact and work with clients, regulatory agency personnel and with other EMH&T team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Our environmental team works both in the field and in the office and conducts some out-of-town/overnight travel (primarily in Ohio).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Botany, Geology or related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
Skills:
- Experience with ecological surveys, wetland delineations, aquatic and terrestrial habitat assessments, vegetative and biotic sampling.
- Ability to prepare technical reports (experience with preparing delineation reports, Ecological Survey Reports and waterway permit applications is preferred).
- A self-starter that demonstrates dependability and consistent work efforts.
- Ability to work independently but enjoy working in a team environment and mentoring other team members.
- Strong planning and organization capabilities with high attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to express ideas clearly.
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated project management and client management experience.
- Experience with or certifications for freshwater mussel surveys.
Physical Requirements:
- The work may be physically demanding and aspects of the work environment described here are representative of those that an employee in the above-listed position(s) will encounter and must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical demands may include:
- The ability to tolerate outdoor weather conditions and be exposed to outdoor insects, poisonous plants, and allergens for extended periods of time (8-10 hours per day throughout the year).
- The ability to walk for extended periods of time and the ability to maneuver over rough terrain, ditches, steep banks, and uneven ground.
- Must be able to carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment/materials while walking across terrain.
- Intermittent squatting, leaning, twisting and bending.
- Use of hand equipment or tools.
Work Environment:
- Our Environmental Scientists spend time both in the field and in the office. The amount of time in the field varies seasonally, but fieldwork will be conducted year-round.
- Capable of handling the physical requirements of the role, including working in occasionally demanding field conditions.
Travel:
- Some out-of-town travel will be required, primarily in Ohio and surrounding states. Some assignments may require full weeks of out-of-town work.
