- Contribute to the success of the UTMB Correctional Managed Care operation.
- Provides leadership and direction for the facility nursing services staff.
- Provides regular communication of information to facility staff regarding unit operational, regional and system-wide issues.
- Ensures the delivery of competent and safe patient care, 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
- Participates in budget formulation and management.
- Ensures facility compliance with institutional, professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
- Assures that all staff are oriented to and competent in the performance of their duties.
- Develops and implements quality assurance/improvement program at the facility.
- Implements utilization management programs at the facility.
- Assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the operation of the facility.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Located in a clean and safe medical facility within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center.
- Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped work space and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
- Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.
- Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
- Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitor equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication.
- Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs.
- Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.
- May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.
- Able to work under stress and be emotionally capable of coping with complex and/or changing activities.
- May be required to be on standby and work extended hours in extraordinary situations.
Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, current license approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.
- Master's degree in Nursing or a related field with two (2) years of nursing supervisory experience.

- Bachelor's degree in Nursing with three (3) years of nursing supervisory experience.
- Associate's degree or diploma in Nursing with four (4) years of nursing supervisory experience.
