Job Summary: ABOUT THE POSITION: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. You may need to complete a 3 year probationary period, if applicable. This position is with 7th Signal Command, 21st Signal Brigade, 302nd Signal Battalion, located at Camp Roberts, California.

Major Duties:

  • Serve as a Security Guard who functions as the first layer of defense in a security in- depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access to Army installations restricted to the general public.
  • Responsible for preserving the life, health and safety of government personnel and safeguarding Army property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.
  • Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures (SOPs), written orders and regulatory requirements as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
  • Stand at fixed entry gate checkpoints, inspecting vehicles and personnel for proper identification upon arrival/departure from the installation.
  • Conduct search of persons and vehicles entering the installation as directed by the Chief of Police, preventing illegal weapons and contraband from entering the installation.
  • Maintain traffic control at the entry points to the installation.
  • Responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
  • Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.

Qualifications: This position is in the Technician/Administrative Support Category at the Entry/Developmental Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by experience reading and comprehending laws, regulations, or policies; experience related to security of installation, persons, property, or facilities; and experience conduct walking or mobile patrol to identify possible intrusions or criminal activity.
