Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world’s best pre-K through 12th grade private schools, where over 2,000 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost-free home, a top-notch education and access to exceptionally well-resourced athletic and other extra-curricular opportunities. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed with the resources to ensure students thrive. The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students.
MHS is currently seeking to fill various assistant coach positions within the Senior Division Football program. Available positions across all three teams (Varsity, JV, and Freshman) include the following:
Varsity Assistant Coaches
JV Head Coach
JV Assistant Coaches
Freshman Head Coach
Freshman Assistant Coach
The team competes in the Mid Penn Conference in PIAA District III (4A) against a mix of local public and private high schools. The team typically consists of approximately 80 athletes and a coaching staff of 10. These are part-time ancillary positions with a season running from August to November, with practices Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Games are typically on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays (Varsity); Mondays or Saturdays (JV); and Wednesdays (Freshman).
Off-season work is required for this position. This position is paid a stipend for the season based on the candidate’s experience and hours fulfilled. Additionally, there is an incentive for postseason pay if qualified for PIAA District/State playoffs.
MHS coaches are exceptionally dedicated to student success – both on and off the playing field. Additionally, they are responsible for:
Implementing a strategic long-term vision for exceptional team achievement.
Implementing effective practices and skill development.
Collaborating as a cohesive and highly effective coaching staff.
Ensuring safety regulations and protocols are upheld.
Collaborating effectively with MHS departments such as Scholastics, Home Life, Admissions, Graduate Programs for Success (GPS), Middle Division, and more.
1 year of demonstrated successful elite level coaching experience at the high school or college level.
Proficiency with fundamentals, strategy, PIAA rules, sportsmanship, and character development.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including an exceptional ability to inspire and lead, as well as effectively collaborate.
Driver’s license in good standing and MHS Van Driver Certification completion within 3 months of hiring.
Dedication to student success.
High degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for students.
Organization, time management skills, technology use (film, email, etc.).
First Aid/CPR certification every two years
