Description
Bryant Consultants, an Aperture company, is seeking a part-time to full-time Staff Engineer, with specialized experience in structural engineering, to join our Insurance Services Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in site observations and data collection, structural evaluations, interviewing property owners and/or their representatives, and technical report writing.
In this role, you’ll conduct investigations, assess structural conditions, and provide detailed documentation to support forensic (primarily insurance) cases. Our insurance clients ask us to investigate matters and provide reports which aid them in coverage decisions for their policyholders. Common examples of these investigation requests include foundation claims, moisture investigations, useful remaining portions of residential and commercial structures after a loss event, vehicle or storm damage to structures, explosions, retaining wall failures, etc.
Essential Functions
- Engineering analyses related to a variety of projects include, but not limited to, commercial and residential buildings, retaining walls, flatwork, towers, reinforced slopes, bridges, drainageways, and any other structurally related projects.
- Evaluate data from engineering reports and documents, construction plans and documentation, municipal records, site photographs and field notes, deposition transcripts, and various other court proceedings to form conclusions.
- Review supplied file information, perform in-town and out-of-town inspections (including crawlspaces, attics, roofs, etc.), conduct interviews, draw floor plans, document site-specific and environmental variables, take relative elevation foundation and/or topographical measurements, obtain photographic support (with voice annotations), and document any other relevant information.
- Communicate with clients about project details during the project life cycle and document all correspondence.
- Assist with other forensic investigations in determining cause-and-origin of damages, construction defects, structural failures, water intrusion, and building envelope deficiencies.
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, with proven experience in forensic investigations, data analysis, and report writing.
- Structural engineering education and experience preferred.
- Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license required, and
- 5-7 years of staff engineering experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires that you have the physical ability to perform all the following functions: Climb ladders, walk on roofs, enter and work in confined spaces, work outdoors in hot or cold weather, lift up to 50 pounds, use necessary safety equipment,
- Perform duties that may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or squatting for prolonged periods of time
- May be required to travel for business purposes.
- The ability to sit at a desk up to 80% of the time
- The ability to stand and walk up to 20% of the time
- The ability to be confined in a small area, such as a cubicle
- The ability to operate phones and computers

Hours of Work
- Fulltime: Defined as 5 days a week for 40 hours per week. Actual working hours will be discussed with the hiring manager.
