Description

Job Title: Safety Technician
Department: Safety
Reports To: EHS Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Summary 

Supports the development and execution of safety and health initiatives to ensure a safe working environment. Assists in implementing safety policies, conducting inspections, maintaining checklists and records, and promoting compliance. Works closely with the production team to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and foster a culture of safety.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provide on-site first aid to injured employees, and when necessary, transport them to designated medical facilities for further evaluation or treatment.
  • Provide coverage throughout the plant in the absence of the EHS Manager
  • Inspects hazardous waste Satellite Accumulation point(s) as required.
  • Manage all supporting documentation for environmental, health & safety programs to assure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Conduct required weekly, monthly, and annual safety training
  • Conduct audits and implement action plans.
  • Help create a culture of injury-free attitudes within the company by demonstrating honest, genuine care and passion for EHS.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements for safety related incidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Basic understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to conduct routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication, training, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to influence and motivate employees, enforce company safety policies and procedures, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a collaborative team setting.
  • Must be available to respond to any emergency situations related to employee and property safety.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel off-site when needed.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or must be willing to obtain.

 

Education and/or Experience:  

  • High school diploma or GED Required
  • Preferred or willingness to complete certification programs
    • OSHA 10
    • First Aid/CPR
    • HAZWOPER
    • RCRA
  • 2+ years experience in boat manufacturing preferred or any industry setting
  • Familiarity with OSHA, TDEC, TDOT regulations are desirable but will provide training
  • Experience in medical response or emergency services is beneficial

 

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and vendors.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Typical 10+ hour workdays, some travel required.  Safety glasses and closed toe shoes are required when on production floor.
