The Maintenance Apprentice is an entry-level role designed to provide hands-on training and development for individuals interested in a career in warehouse maintenance. Under the guidance of experienced Maintenance Technicians and the Facilities Manager, the apprentice will assist with preventive maintenance, repairs, and general facility support while learning the technical skills required to become a Maintenance Mechanic.
Responsibilities:Essential Functions: (The reason this job exists is to perform these functions. These functions are performed regularly, seriously impacts other jobs, and there are a limited number of employees whom performance of the function can be distributed).
- Assist the maintenance team with inspection, repair, adjustment, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of conveyor systems, material handling equipment, and facility systems.
- Learn and provide support in areas such as:
- Basic electrical work (low-voltage wiring, lighting, and control devices)
- Mechanical assemblies and parts replacement
- Preventive maintenance on forklifts, batteries, chargers, and other MHE
- General HVAC, fire suppression, and lighting system upkeep under supervision
- Support daily operations of non-critical equipment (dock equipment, balers, carton erectors, etc.) by assisting in cleaning, minor adjustments, and reporting issues to senior technicians.
- Participate in preventive maintenance routines and complete basic documentation as directed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
- Follow all company safety policies, guidelines, and OSHA requirements.
- Complete assigned on-the-job training and develop technical proficiency over time.
Other Functions:
- Use basic computer skills to look up information, enter work orders, and communicate via email.
- Assist with identifying tools, parts, and supplies needed for tasks.
- Participate in general facility upkeep and assigned projects.
- Perform other duties assigned to support the Facilities Team.
Qualifications:
- Mechanical and/or electrical knowledge or training.
- Hands-on experience or education in one or more of the following areas preferred:
- Auto mechanic or auto technician
- Electrician’s helper or apprentice
- HVAC technician (minimum 1 year experience)
- Industrial mechanical technician
- Recent trade school graduates in Auto Tech, Electrical Tech, HVAC Tech, or Industrial Mechanical Tech are encouraged to apply.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Ability to work safely, follow instructions, and collaborate with a team.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment with exposure to machinery, varying temperatures, and noise levels.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Flexibility to work different shifts or weekends, if needed, for maintenance coverage.
Career Path:
This is a developmental role designed to prepare the apprentice for promotion into a full Maintenance Mechanic position upon successful completion of training and demonstration of required skills.

- Identify parts, materials and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
- Ability to learn and utilize the CMMS system for parts lookup, work order assignments and PM duties

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Required Knowledge: Mechanical & Electrical aptitude; other skilled trades
Experience Required: Some mechanical and electrical experience required, position will work to accumulate 8,320 hours of mechanical & electrical experience
DC operations experience is a plus
Skill and Ability: Must be able to work independently & with a team
Must meet attendance requirements
Must have own hand-tool collection
Must have knowledge of hand-tool usage
Must display a sense of urgency towards task completion
Ability to use maintenance-related equipment and tools including Nitta belt welder, hoists, drills/drill press, saws, grinder, test meters, welder, etc.
Ability to learn new procedures and offer input for improvements
Ability to meet safety, quality, productivity requirements
Ability to do continuous lifting up to 50 pounds
Ability to effectively communicate relevant information and offer input towards solutions
Ability to share knowledge and learnings with team
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Ability to work in a fast pace environment
Ability and willingness to work all shifts and overtime when required
