Job Summary
The Filler Operator is responsible for operating filling and packing equipment to produce beverages according to work order specifications, while strictly following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety protocols. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that production runs are completed efficiently, accurately, and safely, with a strong focus on quality and compliance. The Filler Operator is expected to maintain a professional and team-oriented attitude, helping the department meet daily production goals in a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor filler machines and related equipment safely, efficiently, and in accordance with SOPs, GMPs, and Work Order (WO) instructions
- Process work orders accurately and on time according to the daily production schedule
- Support CIP (Clean-In-Place), SIP (Sterilize-In-Place), and manual cleaning of equipment components as needed
- Perform fill volume and weight checks, and adjust settings to meet specifications
- Monitor product quality during production and make operating adjustments as required
- Conduct regular quality tests to ensure compliance with safety and product standards
- Document production details accurately, including weights, teardown results, cap integrity, downtime, and sanitation records
- Identify and remove defective or damaged cartons to prevent machine jams or quality issues
- Understand and apply correct part numbers, lot numbers, and product descriptions listed on work orders
- Maintain an adequate supply of caps and cases at the machine to support continuous operation
- Ensure proper application and sealing of caps and cases, inspecting for correct glue patterns and case integrity
- Support minor equipment maintenance and repairs to prevent downtime and ensure optimal machine performance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment to support product integrity and employee safety
- Collaborate with Quality Department to ensure all food safety and quality standards are met
- Adhere to all Safety, Quality, and Filler Department policies and procedures
- Demonstrate strong judgment by identifying and reporting unsafe conditions immediately
- Follow all practices related to aseptic processing to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate regular, reliable attendance
- Complete all required logs and departmental paperwork legibly and accurately
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Skills
- High school diploma or GED required; 1+ years of work experience preferred, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to ensure understanding of written procedures, safety instructions, technical documentation, and verbal communications.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and use of weights and measures. Must be comfortable using a calculator.
- Familiarity with basic computer systems and control interfaces.
- Basic understanding of food production and food safety principles is a plus.
- Team-oriented attitude; respectful, approachable, honest, dependable, and adaptable to change. Capable of resolving conflicts professionally.
- Able to prioritize tasks and remain productive under shifting demands.
- Follows both written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Highly motivated, reliable, and hands-on with a strong problem-solving mindset.
- Able to identify and address inconsistencies or quality issues with accuracy and precision.
Physical Demands
- Ability to work beyond regularly scheduled hours during peak periods or critical operations
- Must possess adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to meet essential job performance and safety standards.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, and using hands for detailed tasks
- Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting, climbing, and using hand and power tools, including pallet jacks, scales, ladders, and standard material handling and cleaning equipment
- Capable of safely lifting up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the day; ability to handle heavier items with proper lifting equipment or team-assisted techniques to ensure safety
Work Environment
Employees must be able to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment that may include exposure to odors, dust, moderate noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature and ventilation. Work environment may involve exposure to inclement weather. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, which may include but is not limited to: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, hairnets, uniforms, and face shields, as required by specific job duties and safety protocols.
