REPORTS TO: WOX Principal

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months (15-20 hours/week)

 

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for establishing a community readers program in which members of the community volunteer to read with second-grade students on a weekly basis.  The goal of the program is for students to develop meaningful relationships with mentors while having the opportunity to practice reading skills.  The community readers facilitator will solicit volunteers and match them to students.  They will create the curriculum, ensuring that students and volunteers have access to appropriate, high-quality literature, and monitor the attendance of the volunteers.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build relationships within the community to help encourage volunteering
  • Engage volunteers on a weekly basis
  • Match volunteers with students
  • Provide readers with appropriate, high-quality text and any other materials
  • Advocate for the program with parents, educators, and families.
  • Provide documentation of volunteer attendance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required - Classroom experience
  • Preferred- Established member of the local community

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer use skills (word processing, spreadsheets, ability to learn required programs)
