Description
The IE Technician II maintains and tests electrical systems and components, ensuring they meet established specifications. Tasks involve, but are not limited to performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of automation and electrical equipment for Oil & Gas production. Responsible for assisting IE SR Technician with modifications. Also assists with installation and startups and will contribute with process improvements. The work is both technical and hands on in nature and relies on experience and independent judgment to perform the functions of the job. Reviews and analyzes documentation, materials, and calculations, to ensure compliance with customer, product, safety, quality, and industry standards and requirements.
Essential Job Functions:
- Troubleshoot data and connectivity issues and provide technical support to correct issues.
- Ensure the reliability, integrity, and usability of electrical, and automation equipment.
- Understands hazardous area classification requirements to finalize, design and layout of the electrical/control instrumentation on a package.
- Sizes instrument cables, junction boxes, conduit, cable trays and layout of instrument/electrical on the package within the guidelines of Oil & Gas industry codes and standards.
- Prepares controls schematic, cable schedule, wiring diagrams and logic diagrams.
- Provides start-up assistance to field service technicians and customers during commissioning of equipment packages at site.
- Reviews and manages deliverables of the control system to remain in compliance with the requirement of the project.
- Identifies and executes product standardization opportunities.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1-3 years Instrument & Electronic experience in a field service environment.
- Ability to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of instrument & controls system design and its application for Oil & Gas process equipment packages.
- Technical skills to read and understand Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&IDs).
- Demonstrates a broad knowledge of industry standards (API, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, IEC, etc.).
- Valid Driver's license with good driving record.
- An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.
- Ability to perform and pass a job specific physical and DOT physical.
Preferred Experience:
- Working experience with Compression or other Rotating Equipment.
- Troubleshooting Knowledge of PLC Analog and Digital add on and removals.
- Timely problem-solving skills, proven ability to work within a team environment with the ability to follow a project and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
- Advanced PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet usage required. CAD skills (AutoCAD) preferred.

- Ability to stand, sit and/or walk on a hard surface as well as safely bend, stoop, reach, climb steps, and use ladder.
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs., occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., and seldom lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Activities requiring handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by utilizing hand tools, power tools, nuts, bolts, electronic controls, and other small parts.
- Ability to wear a respirator, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.
- Ability work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 4 hours per day.
- Vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Vision to accurately read all related distribution documents and computer monitor screens.
- Capable of driving distances of 150 miles or more per day during all types of weather conditions.
- Working environment includes exposure to extremely loud noises in field, hazardous Chemicals, and Hydrocarbons that may be under extreme pressure for which appropriate safety measures are required.
- Ability to work significant amounts of time as required in completing job responsibilities.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required.
