Job Summary:
Processes new referrals to be serviced by the company and is a liaison between the referral source and the Pharmacy. Determines eligibility and benefits for new referrals or re-admissions. Obtains authorizations and secures financial obligations for new referrals or readmissions. Coordinates receipt of information with clinical departments. Shows concern and respect for others by dealing with people in a compassionate, sensitive and responsive manner. Performs a variety of tasks under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Additional dimensions may include working with operating budget, revenue responsibility, purchasing responsibility, etc.Ensures company’s goals and objectives are aligned with the organization’s broader mission, vision, and driving strategies.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answers telephone utilizing appropriate etiquette and speaks with general public, referral sources, payors, clinician's patients and their families.
- Initiates intake process, gathers relevant data from referral sources and completes intake paperwork.
- Notifies clinical departments of new referral and coordinates information between referral source and clinicians.
- Provides the necessary intake paperwork to clinical departments.
- Checks with state agency/internet status on ordering Physicians' license, UPIN and DEA status.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Obtains authorization for services and or predetermination of benefits.
- Confirms that services to be provided by company are a covered benefit under patient's insurance coverage.
- Determines patient's out of pocket expense.
- Enters patient data into the system.
- Completes start of care paperwork, Financial Obligation Form, Medicare/Medicaid forms as needed. Forwards the necessary paperwork to Pharmacy department for delivery.
- Contacts patient prior to start of care to confirm information, notification of financial obligation and arrange any requests for payments.
- May assist to verify insurance eligibility and benefits for ongoing patients by review of the daily activity report, per request of clinical departments, with a minimum of monthly check. Enters on going data into the system,
- May assist to obtain authorizations for ongoing patients; data noted in system.
- Generates daily referral log that is forwarded to Business Development.
- Obtains eligibility for patients at other branches through centralized eligibility process.
- Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of ICD-10, HCPC and CPT coding required.
• Knowledge of health insurance guideline to include benefits and risk matrixes required.
• Mathematical skills sufficient to calculate price quotes required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with referral sources, case managers, supervisors, staff employees and the general public is required.
• Basic personal computer skills required; prior experience with healthcare software programs preferred. Must be able to speak and present ideas clearly.
• Must be able to adhere to departmental and company policies and procedures.
Education and/or Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous work experience in medical environment or medical education required.
• 1+ years of previous intake/eligibility/authorization experience or equivalent training required.
• 1 year of previous experience in home infusion provider setting required.
