JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Technology Specialist I
Department: Technology
260 Days Non-Exempt
General Summary:
Entry level position that will be assisting in technical support of computer systems including client and server computing platforms, communications network, related peripheral devices and district supported administrative applications in the schools. Responds to computer technical problems by providing phone support, accessing systems remotely or by going on-site as required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to customers in the schools.
- Supports hardware and networking equipment both administrative and classroom.
- Perform troubleshooting, problem determination and resolution.
- Adheres to District standards and procedures relating to computer hardware, software and vendor agreements.
- Escalates unresolved problems to appropriate personnel.
- Possess some knowledge of audio/video equipment or be willing to learn.
- Analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations for upgrades, repairs, replacement, etc.
- Performs maintenance upgrades as necessary to ensure currency of equipment or software.
- Identify recurrent problems and assist customers in resolution.
- Prepare computers for designated employees, load appropriate software and systems.
- Communicates effectively with customers, peers and management.
- Follows established security procedures.
- Implements ideas for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain current certifications and pursue continued training opportunities for future expansion of skills and knowledge.
- Participate in all staff development/training developed for technical specialist.
- Adheres to established procedures, policies and standards of the District.
- Performs related work as required.
- All other duties as assigned.
Hours of Work and Working Conditions:
- Scheduled to work 40 hours per week.
- Travel between schools.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to complete projects.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors:
- Ability to ensure a professional work environment while maintaining emotional control under stressful situations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and possess a valid TN driver license. A background check is required.
Qualification and Training:
- Prefer knowledge of networked environment with Microsoft platforms.
- Ability to learn quickly and operate in a team environment.
- Established problem-solving techniques.
- Independent/self-motivated learner.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Certificate from a state accredited Technical School or Associates Degree (preferred) from a state accredited college or university OR Military technical training supporting an IT MOS *
1 - Certification: CompTIA A+; MTA (Microsoft Technical Associate); MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional); MCSA; ACSP (Apple Certified Support Professional); ACMT; or equivalent
