Plant Manager



JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/ Objectives

The Plant Manager is responsible for how production and logistics function according to the overall plan throughout the year.  This position will work closely with leadership to determine and support current business strategies, priorities, and directions and will lead a team in achieving those goals and objectives. Through production, facility, and logistics managers, the Plant Manager ensures the safety, quality and budget plans are met or exceeded. The Plant Manager is responsible for delivering leadership with production and logistics performance metrics and developing strategic plans that will allow production to be successful.

  1. Responsible for supervisory activities or production, logistics and facilities managers including but not limited to performance, hiring, discipline, coaching, training, termination.
  2. Communicate production schedule obstacles and work with other leaders to seek to resolve in the most cost effective and efficient route.
  3. Set measurable and attainable goals for the production, logistics and facility managers. Ensure they are achieving the goals through KPIs, clear instructions and clear feedback.
  4. Continuously investigate ways to enhance production processes to achieve higher utilization and efficiencies
  5. Ensure the quality plan and program is aligned with company goals and values and that the production, logistics and facility managers are following the plan
  6. Ensure the safety plan and program is aligned with company goals and values and that the production, logistics and facility managers are following the plan
  7. Ensure the budget plan and program is aligned with company goals and values and that the production, logistics and facility managers are following the plan
  8. Provide motivation, support, and guidance to all production, logistics, and facility employees.
  9. Communicate successes, needs, and concerns to senior management.
  10. Work proactively with various departments to realize efficiencies and manage expectations.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
  12. Compiles list of CAPEX projects with ROI or justification
  13. Serves as a primary point of contact and liaison with business development, engineering, sales and manufacturing departments.
  14. Participates in periodic forecasting meetings with scheduling, sales, engineering, and other related departments
  15. Analyzes cost of goods sold, production variances, and outliers in the production process with an improvement mentality

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages production, logistics, and facility managers and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of these personnel.





Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

The position requires frequent visits to all areas within the facility, including the manufacturing area.  While in the manufacturing area, the team member is exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the manufacturing environment can be loud.

 



Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.




Position Type & Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This position may occasionally require long hours and weekend work.



Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.



Required Education & Experience


  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or five years plant/general management experience in a manufacturing environment.

  2. Five years safety program experience

  3. Five years quality program experience

  4. Knowledge of Microsoft office programs including word, excel, visio, and powerpoint





Preferred Education & Experience


  1. Working knowledge of manufacturing industry

  2. Lean manufacturing background

  3. Five years management experience
