Summary

The Manufacturing Manager oversees the employee staff within the departments of their responsibility to ensure the departmental goals and targets are met.  These areas are but not limited to; completing production work schedules, employee selection and development, training, performance evaluation, rewarding & counseling employees in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. This position is critical for achieving customer service, plant efficiency and inventory objectives.  Completes these tasks by performing the following duties personally or through others.

Key Deliverables

Works safely and supports safety within their team across the organization, timely completion of projects and reports, maintains departmental targets, processes and files, optimizes department production schedules, develops skilled and well trained employees, ensures excellent customer service, and inventory accuracy.

Key Accountability Metrics

Safety metrics, Quality metrics, Work Order fill rate target, Inventory turns, Efficiency and Effectivity metrics, production variances, training program, Employee reviews, EBITB, employee turnover and communications.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

 Include the following and other duties may be assigned. Works safely and supports safety within their team across the organization – As required.

Directly Supervise Production Supervisors and Area – 55%

  • Monitors weekly and Monthly production schedules and support in the manufacturing environment
  • Recommends/Sets and monitors departmental goals for areas assigned
  • Recommends/Sets and monitors departmental budgets for areas assigned
  • Ensures all production work orders are accurately completed in SAP daily
  • Works with scheduling to review and analyze inventory accuracy and appropriate levels to support business needs
  • Ensures customer Fill rates are met.
  • Conduct daily gemba walks to openly discuss departmental actions, metrics, and targets for each production area.
  • Provide monthly performance reports to manager
  • Works with Purchasing to ensure that all necessary materials are on order and will be received in a timely manner
  • Ensures all equipment in their respective departments is maintained to appropriate standards
  • Support and enforce company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Motivate, reward & counseling employees in accordance with the organizations policies
  • Drives continuous improvement throughout the facility including utilizing lean tools and visual factory concepts
  • Educates and motivates production personnel on the importance of attaining key accountability metrics/goals.
  • Ensures all Work Instructions and Procedures as they relate to assigned departments are up to date.
  • Complete employee requisitions, selection, and reviews as per the company requirement
  • Ensures Production budget targets are met

Team Based Problem Solving/Projects – 35%

  • Lead cross-functional teams to facilitate optimal departmental performance
  • Analyzes opportunities, develops and implements solutions to enhance the area processes
  • Activities include scheduling process improvement, increase inventory turns, cycle counts, cost reduction efforts, statistical analysis, as well as utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodology, and teamwork
  • Completes assigned Plant projects on time and within budget.

Inventory Support - 10%

  • Supports Cycle program for all areas of responsibility in the plant
  • Analyses inventory negative balances and Work Order variances to correct inventories
  • Ensures annual physical inventory for assigned departments is completed on time and according to company policies and procedures
  • Maintains inventory turns target for assigned departments

Education and/or Experience

Required

  • Associate's degree in Business Management, Operations Management and/or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or five years of related experience as an Operations Manager, Manufacturing Manager, or Production Manager/Supervisor
  • Expert knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
  • Excellent computer skills; Effective written and verbal communication; Ability to simultaneously execute multiple assignments; Problem solving; and Project management

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Operations Management
  • Experience with SAP ERP system
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

  • Computer skills including a proficiency in MS Office, emphasis on Excel
