Overview:

Sentara RMH Medical Center is hiring a registered nurse for the Intensive Care Unit. This position is ideal for candidates who have experience or an interest in providing care for medical/surgical ICU patients and cardiothoracic surgical patients.

Department overview

  • Widely known for great teamwork, multiple award winning team. 
  • Majority of staff are tenured nurses (10 years or more)
  • The most common diagnosis on this unit are sepsis, acute respiratory failure, renal failure, gastrointestinal bleeds, cardiothoracic surgeries such as CABG and valve replacement, complex vascular surgeries and general surgeries with complications. 
  • Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple vasopressor/drug therapy, EKOS, impella, IABP,  and CRRT.

Education

Associates Degree – Nursing

OR

Bachelor’s Degree - Nursing

Certification/Licensure

Registered Nurse License

Experience

Previous acute care experience preferred

Transition to Practice/Nurse Residency Program

This 10-week TTP program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in Medical-Surgical areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.

Program includes:

  • Formal delivery of fundamental critical care nursing concepts and standards via foundational ECCO (Essentials of Critical Care Orientation from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)) modules blended with in-person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skills labs
  • Exposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelines as recommended by the AACN
  • Hands-on experience in the intensive care unit alongside a trained nurse preceptor
  • Opportunity to share your experiences/networking with peers in a safe, protected environment
  • A series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses
