Responsible for developing and deploying the AFLA strategic safety initiatives. Rolls out and maintains safety policies and procedures in line with legislation and regulations, Amcor corporate guidelines and rules, and ensures implementation throughout the Region.The nature of the role involves providing leadership and direction in the management of safety and environmental matters, to ensure delivery of the key safety and environmental goals for Amcor. Although essentially an advisory role (with no direct reports and safety at all times the responsibility of line management), the post holder must be highly influential and have the managerial courage when necessary to assert themselves and drive safety as a number one priority in the business.This role will require travel up to 60%, and can be based on Londrina,BR, Mauá,BR or Lima,PE. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership for the business in OHSE matters, setting an example for others, setting the business priorities, providing direction, settling disputes and encouraging teamwork, and driving business performance.
  • Drive a strong Occupational Health and Safety culture and supporting practices within the AFLA business to achieve and sustain the goal of “Safe workplace”. Drive the cultural change required to achieve this.
  • As a member of the OHSE central team, contribute to the development of strategic initiatives, policies and practices whilst ensuring active exchange of best practice between the different Amcor businesses. Provide monthly accident and ignition statistics to AFLA Group / OHSE Senior Management.
  • Provide direction and support to the AFLA management for the deployment of AFLA strategic OHSE initiatives, policies and practices within the Region, taking into account local legislation, cultural context, corporate guidelines and existing performance.
  • Output to be included in the annual business plan (FY budget)
  • Develop and guide skilled, motivated OHSE professionals in all AFLA sites including coaching, training, succession planning and recruitment, ensuring a high standard of staff professionalism in the OHSE function.
  • Coordinate and lead audits according to AFLA audit plans.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, employee representatives and external partners e.g. government agencies, insurers, occupational health specialists, local communities, ensuring Amcor’s interests are promoted and that the priority assigned by Amcor to OHSE is understood and that we live up to this in our actions.
  • Provide point of contact for crisis situations and enforcement authorities (where applicable) to assist sites as required, according to Amcor rules and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with local (Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Mexico) statutory regulations as well as AFLA requirements and standards eg. Amcor, ISO Norms, OHSAS 18001, FDA, BRC-IOP, etc.
  • Coordinate internal (Corporate Governance) OHSE audit programme for the Region.
  • Provide or obtain advice on legal requirements for the AFLA plants as applicable.
  • Overseeing the preparation of Hazard Alerts within the area of responsibility.

Qualifications:This is a specialist role, demanding a thorough knowledge of the law as it affects OHSE, practical hands on experience of affecting change, and managerial courage to drive change when needed. Extensive travel for site visits will be expected.
  • 5+ years of OHSE experience in an international and industrial company, preferably a known leader in the area of OHSE.
  • Practical experience within a large plant environment with a unionized workforce.
  • Languages: Spanish (fluent), Portuguese (fluent), English (Advanced).
  • Strong ability to lead change at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of solid achievement against OHSE KPIs in a leadership role.
  • Cultural awareness, sensitive to managing in the cultural context of South American countries.
  • Education and Certifications.
  • Engineer or OHSE degree preferred.
  • Change Management Training & Auditor Training.
