JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates efforts regarding Lending such as: Consumer underwriting, indirect funding, dealer relationships, home equity processing, vehicle title work, reporting, and loan review/monitoring.
- Decisions loan applications submitted by member-facing staff and via electronic channels, as well as by our dealer partners, according to the policies and parameters established by the Underwriting Committee.
- Assesses complex loan applications that exceed Underwriter expertise or require additional review. Evaluates loan exceptions within designated lending limits and approval authority.
- Complies with credit union policies and government regulations by securely maintaining member information and records, coordinating efforts with audit, retail operations, compliance, credit resolutions, and quality assurance.
- Act as a resource to staff by identifying and providing solutions to the more challenging member situations. This includes contacting the members directly when required.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Consumer Lending Manager, Director of Lending or Senior Team.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE
- Possesses a thorough knowledge of credit union operations, including lending, deposit products and departmental operations.
- Keeps current with industry trends and changes in regulations.
- In accordance with Underwriting Committee policies and parameters, ability to make sound lending decisions and attempts to maximize opportunities in all lending situations through cross-sell and counteroffer recommendations.
- Sensitive to the credit union philosophy, understands the difference between a credit union and a bank, and works with members based on their individual needs.
- Possess ability for independent thinking that allows for identification of problems and corresponding solutions. Develops and executes action plans where needed.

- Time Management – Has the ability to process a large volume of work while maintaining expected turn-around times and standards. Possesses good ability to organize work, plan activities, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines/standards for work assigned. Has the ability to function in high-pressure situations on a regular basis. Must be flexible and have a strong ability to adapt to changing situations.
- Communication – Expresses self honestly, positively, and professionally in both oral and written communication. Speaks correctly and uses correct grammar and spelling in all communications. Is thorough in their documentation of lending decisions and effectively communicates decisions to other staff and members.

Uses tact and diplomacy in difficult situations, approaching conflicts from a positive angle and striving to find a win-win solution by using sound negotiating skills. - Technical – Displays a strong analytical ability, with the ability to be direct and ask discerning questions. Strong math ability.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Incumbent should possess three years of experience successfully underwriting consumer loans, and 1 to 2 years loan processing experience preferably at a credit union. A college degree in a business-related field or its equivalent of three to five years of related experience is desirable.
Attendance of credit union industry seminars, workshops and conventions may be required. Ongoing professional development is expected.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires the following physical activities within varying environmental conditions:
- Occasionally remaining in a stationary position which may be standing or sitting for a prolonged period.
- Occasional travel or moving from one office location to another or from one department to another at the headquarters building.
- Occasional lifting, moving, or adjusting objects up to 20 pounds.
- Constant communication with others through various channels including verbal, email, and chat of which the last two may require consistent use of a keyboard and mouse or another electronic device.
- Work will be in a commercially reasonable temperature-controlled environment.
- Occasional temporary exterior site review which could be in outdoor elements of wind, rain, or snow.
