Address: 1001 Risen Son Boulevard - Council Bluffs, Iowa
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 730am to 430pm

Performs and documents all lab tests ensuring quality control. Medical Lab Technician works at a rural location.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Performs and documents quality control activities to ensure accuracy of test results by following guidelines set by instrument manufacturers and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

  • CONTROLS ARE RUN DAILY 100% OF TIME.
  • CONTROLS ARE DOCUMENTED DAILY 98% OF TIME.

Performs phlebotomy as prescribed by clinic guidelines to obtain specimens from patients by following standardized procedures.

  • NO MORE THAN 4 PATIENT COMPLAINTS PER YEAR.
  • 98% OF SPECIMENS ARE DRAWN IN PROPER CONTAINER LESS THAN 95% PROBLEMS WITH SPECIMEN INTEGRITY.

Prepares specimens to be processed in-house or sent out by labeling specimens accurately, separating specimens for processing, accurately filling out requisitions and entering information into the computer.

  • 98% OF SPECIMENS ARE LABELED ACCORDING TO WRITTEN CRITERIA.
  • 97% OF DATA IS ENTERED CORRECTLY IN THE COMPUTER.
  • 97% ACCURACY IN PROCESSING SPECIMENS AND PAPERWORK

Analyze specimens to obtain information for diagnosis by performing necessary tests according to standardized procedures.

  • ANALYZES SPECIMENS ACCORDING TO PROCEDURES WITH LESS THAN 3 ERRORS PER YEAR.

Maintains proper documentation of laboratory activities to ensure quality testing integrity by confirming test results, interpreting data based on knowledge of technique and following guidelines for quality assurance.

  • DOCUMENTS LAB ACTIVITY PROPERLY 95%.
  • FOLLOWS WRITTEN QUALITY ASSURANCE GUIDELINES 95% OF TIME.
  • INTERPRETS DATA CORRECTLY 97% OF TIME.

Performs proficiency tests to meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations by running unknown test samples on a quarterly basis.

  • PERFORMS PROFICIENCY TESTING AS DESIGNATED 99% OF TIME.

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Age Specific Criteria”.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Associates degree in Medical Lab Technician required.


Experience

  • 6 months to 1 year of experience as a Medical Lab Technician preferred


License/Certifications

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS.ASCP) preferred.

  • Knowledge of chemistry techniques
