TECHLITE� is a Tempe, AZ-based manufacturing company that specializes in producing melamine foam for insulation and acoustic products. We are looking for a Machine Operator (Coating Line) to join our team and grow with us! We are a subsidiary of The Zippertubing� Company, a privately held, family-owned company for more than 50 years.

Position Overview

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating the Acoustic Coating Line, including startup, cleaning, and shutdown procedures. The operator will load and unload acoustic foam panels, manage coating materials, and ensure all equipment operates efficiently and safely to produce high-quality finished products.

This position requires attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The operator will also be cross-trained in other areas of manufacturing.

Primary Duties

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain the Acoustic Coating Line, including the conveyor oven and spray system.
  • Perform startup, cleaning, and shutdown procedures as specified in standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Load acoustic foam panels into the coating machine and unload finished panels, packaging them into boxes for shipment.
  • Handle and mix 5-gallon buckets of coating material, ensuring proper consistency and labeling.
  • Perform thickness checks and maintain coating quality throughout production.
  • Clean and maintain paint spray nozzles, heads, and lines to ensure proper spray patterns and prevent clogging.
  • Handle delicate foam materials safely to prevent damage or contamination.
  • Perform meticulous daily cleaning of equipment and work area to maintain product quality and prevent cross-contamination.

Cross-Training and Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in cross-training across multiple manufacturing areas, including:
    • Machine operation (cutting, grinding, shaping, gluing, and assembly).
    • Packaging and preparation for shipping.
    • General manufacturing responsibilities as needed.

Quality and Safety

  • Follow all standard work methods, safety protocols, and housekeeping standards to ensure a safe, organized work environment.
  • Complete all production and quality documentation accurately and on time.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions or process issues to a Production Supervisor or Manager.
  • Exercise authority to stop non-conforming parts or products, notifying Quality or Supervisors immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with all company procedures, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Prior experience in machine operation, paint or coating systems, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move 5-gallon coating containers (40�50 lbs) safely.
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable, punctual, and proactive (�self-starter�).
  • Willingness to learn and cross-train across multiple departments.
  • Painting or coating experience is a plus.

Schedule/Compensation

  • Full Time
  • Monday - Thursday 5:00 am - 3:30 pm (10-hour shifts)
  • Generally off Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • $19.00 + per hour DOE

This position must demonstrate the cognitive ability to, follow directions and routines, work independently with appropriate judgment, exhibit spatial awareness, read words and numbers, concentrate, memorize, and recall, identify logical connections and determine sequence of response and process up to 2-3 steps ahead. Ability to attend work on a regular, predictable and consistent basis and to commute to and from work safely and arrive at work on time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to airborne particulates, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The noise level can be loud at times. Physical Demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. This position involves a variety of repetitive processes such as insertion of materials, alignment by hand and rotating fixtures by hand. The position also involves sitting, talking and, hearing throughout the day. The employee must also be able to safely lift up to 49 pounds or less repeatedly during the 8-10 hour shift.
