Title: Administrative Assistant- Transportation (260 days/year)

Responsibilities:
Assist in overseeing the operations of the transportation department consisting of 70 routes and over 90 staff members, with the responsibility of providing transportation services to a district
Assist in recruiting and making recommendations for employment of bus drivers and aides
Assist in maintaining accurate files and records
Assist in making sure that field trips and sport activities have adequate coverage
Process student, parent, teacher, and administrator complaints
Collaborate with administrators and drivers to ensure effective student management and for resolving transportation related problems
Plan and coordinate in-service education programs for transportation employees
Strong commitment to ensuring safe transportation of students and staff
Work with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure best practices are actively learned and taught within the transportation department
Oversees the drug and alcohol program for the tranportation department
Provide leadership in the planning of school bus routes using a computerized routing program
Review and monitor transportation video footage
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Ability to work accurately and productively with frequent interruptions
Ability to speak clearly and be understood while using the radio
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet demands of the transportation department
Availability of hours for situations including, but not limited to, consulting drivers as needed
Experience with school transportation or demonstrate an understanding of transportation operations
Possess strong computer skills
Preferred:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of dollar and weight measurements, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PREFERRED: CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possess Class B CDL with P,S, and Air brake endorsement or be willing and qualified to acquire licensure
