Job Description:

The Packaging Team Lead is responsible for overseeing daily packaging operations, ensuring production goals are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards. This role serves as a working lead, providing guidance and support to packaging operators while actively participating in packaging tasks.

**Position will be based out of new ITW location in Chicago's Austin neighborhood (proximity to David Speer Academy).

Core responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the activities of the packaging team to meet production schedules.
  • Set-up and efficiently operate assembly and packaging equipment.
  • Ensure packaging processes comply with safety, quality, and ITW standards.
  • Monitor line performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime.
  • Train new and existing team members on equipment operation, safety procedures, and work instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve issues.
  • Maintain accurate production records and reports.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and suggest process enhancements.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the packaging area.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Must be able to work designated shift with occasional overtime; occasional Saturdays may be required.
  • 3+ years of experience in packaging or manufacturing operations preferred
  • Previous leadership or team lead experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to perform basic math (adding and subtraction).
  • Must be able to complete supplemental training (i.e. technical math, basic computer skills, basic measuring skills).
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., data entry, email, production software)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and motivate team members.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be exposed to heat and dust, climate variances and moving mechanical equipment typically found in a manufacturing environment.  The noise level in the work environment is high when exposed to the manufacturing areas.  Certain personal protective equipment is required when in the manufacturing areas. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee must be able to lift, push, and pull product and display materials that weigh from 1 pound to 50 pounds on a consistent basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to grip, grasp, reach, push, and pull with arms; bend, kneel, lift, stand, and walk on hard surfaces such as concrete; speak, listen and read in English. Specific vision abilities are required by this position to include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Hourly base salary for this position is $28.00 - 31.00. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
