Responsibility for the planning and management of the hospitals life safety programs throughout the Kaweah Health to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards concerning fire and life safety, as well as applicable standards set forth by the Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH and other governing regulatory agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

License /Certification
Required: Valid California Drivers License. Must provide DMV report prior to offer being made. No driving infractions 5 years prior to hire or during time in this job. Infractions include DUI, Suspended or Revoked License, Reckless Driving.


Education
Preferred: Associate’s degree in Electronics, or equivalent military training; Three years of technical training or previous maintenance experience.


Experience
Required: Two years experience working with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); Joint Commission Environment of Care (EOC); Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); Center for Medicare Services (CMS).



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Windows programs.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively analyze data and present information or respond to questions from groups of managers, staff or other customers.
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential

Assists in maintaining up-to-date Facilities Department Safety policies and procedures to ensure the minimization of potential accidents and compliance with regulatory agencies.

Assists in providing Safety Orientation of Kaweah Health policies and procedures to all Kaweah Health staff and assists in department monthly and annual Safety in-services for continuous education.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the field of safety as it relates to medical institutions and as required by Joint Commission, state hospital licensing agencies, OSHA and other applicable federal, state and local agencies. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws/regulations.

Ensures Facilities staff have attended programs and are prepared for the various regulatory inspections, including but not limited to Joint Commission, Fire Marshal Visits, County and State visits.

In conjunction with the Facilities Manager, Safety Officer/Life Safety Manager and the Environmental of Care Committee, ensures the Facilities Department is prepared for the various regulatory inspections, including but not limited to Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH, Fire Marshall visits, County and State visits.

In conjunction with the Facilities Manager, Safety Officer/Life Safety Manager and the appropriate Facilities staff, monitors the Performance Improvement indicators for the, Life Safety and Critical testing documentation, PM’s etc.

Coordinates and assists with trend analysis and problem solving for all life safety concerns. On a quarterly basis, prepares Life Safety Performance Improvement results to be presented to the Environment of Care Committee and others as necessary.

Coordinates hazard surveillance rounds and generates corrective work orders for the Facilities Department in deficient areas and tracks/trends responses.

Conducts Interim Life Safety rounds in construction areas and ensures compliance with Life Safety Code.

Conducts various Life Safety related work orders which may include; fire drills, disaster drills, fire wall penetration inspections, fire door inspections etc.

Troubleshoots assigned equipment by reading prints, circuits, and operational manuals to determine defective components.

Capable of learning attributes of new equipment and solving problems with numerous vendors.


Addendum (essential for specific dept)

FIRE PREVENTION TECHNICIAN DUTIES:

Works from complex blue prints, wiring diagrams, shop hand books, layouts and other specifications (written or verbal) to determine materials and working procedures needed in the maintenance of facility machinery, equipment and structures. Performs weekly/monthly fire pump testing as per NFPA standards. Performs monthly inspections, maintains accrurate inventory and inspection documentation of all Kaweah Health fire extinguishers. Performs monthly fire sprinkler inspections as per NFPA standards. Above ceiling / Fire wall penetration permit program: issues, tracks, follow up inspection and completes documentation of above ceiling/Fire wall penetration permits. Schedules repairs, follows up, and maintains documents to fire systems.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.

Pay Range

$27.35 -$41.03
