ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary:
The Facilities Management Superintendent position at the City of Tucson’s General Services Department manages personnel performing public building maintenance, repair, and modification activities. This position oversees the planning, implementation, direction, and management of related functions and resources.
Work is performed under the supervision of the General Services Administrator. This position exercises supervision over Facilities and Communication Maintenance personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates with supervisory personnel to ensure timely, high-quality completion of activities and projects that meet established standards and comply with local, state, and federal regulations and other applicable requirements. Applies and monitors compliance with the Hazardous Communications Standard.
Oversees public building maintenance, repair, and modification activities, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, cement finishing, locksmithing, roofing, glazing, insulating, tile setting, carpet laying, and masonry.
Ensures efficient staffing levels and alignment with departmental needs through hiring, training, and management of personnel. Conducts performance evaluations and provides feedback to support employee development. Assists with issuing corrective and disciplinary actions, and with investigating and resolving grievances and other personnel matters, as necessary. Promotes a safe and healthy work environment by implementing and enforcing safety policies and responding promptly to hazards or unsafe practices. Reviews and approves timecards, time off requests, and personnel actions.
Analyzes organizational and community needs, reviews work order trends and statistics, and identifies opportunities. Communicates impending and proposed developments to department leadership.
Builds strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to address and report on issues relevant to the s department, other city departments, and the community. Responds to issues as a representative of the City as needed and facilities departmental problem-solving efforts.
Develops project cost estimates and implements budget control for facilities projects. Oversees environmental issues, monitors private contractors, and responds to concerns related to projects, and the repair and maintenance of public facilities.
Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working conditions as follows:
Work schedule may require early morning, late evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and on-call shifts.
Often works under the following conditions: Indoor and outdoor work with some exposure to physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Required Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree
Work Experience: Three (3) years of related work experience.
Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License – Arizona Department of Transportation – Motor Vehicle Division
