The purpose of the class is to develop convention and meeting business for the City of Hampton through strategically-applied sales tactics, outreach and customer service. The incumbent is charged with meeting and exceeding sales goals in an effort to generate revenue for the City of Hampton that contributes to quality of life services for the City’s residents. The class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field of study preferred.
  • Requires three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in demonstrated hotel and/or destination sales performance, preferably with a hotel, attraction, event marketing or destination marketing organization.
  • Experience in hospitality industry and/or meetings event field preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. 
  • Thorough knowledge of conference event management required.
  • Must possess or obtain the Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) certification when the employee meets the requirements of practical experience and vocational training required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
