Now Hiring: Fine Art Logistics & Transportation Specialist
The Fine Art Logistics & Transportation Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the safe movement, installation, packing, and transportation of the world-class art, antiques, and jewelry entrusted to M.S. Rau. This role requires precision, craftsmanship, and care in handling rare and often irreplaceable objects. From preparing exhibitions and tradeshows to delivering works to clients’ homes, you will be on the front line of presenting extraordinary pieces of history.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional who is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team in fast-paced, client-facing environments.
Your Role Will Include:
Art Handling & Insulation (40%)
- Safely pack, unpack, move, and install artworks, antiques, and other high-value objects in galleries, private residences, museums, and corporate settings.
- Utilize proper tools, hardware, and techniques for secure and precise installation, including wall-mounting, pedestal placement, and exhibition layouts.
- Work closely with clients, registrars, and project managers to ensure installations meet aesthetic and safety standards.
- Build and modify custom crates, travel frames, and supportive structures for art transport and storage.
- Measure, cut, and assemble wood, foam, and archival materials with precision.
- Design solutions to secure irregularly shaped or fragile works during transit.
Driving & Transportation (40%)
- Drive company vehicles (box trucks, sprinters, vans) to transport art and objects to and from client sites, galleries, museums, vendors, and storage facilities.
- Load and unload artworks using safe handling practices, ensuring secure placement and protection during transit.
- Complete delivery paperwork, manifests, and logs accurately.
Warehouse & Support (20%)
- Assist in organizing, packing, and staging artwork within the warehouse.
- Maintain clean, safe, and orderly storage and workspaces.
- Maintain shop tools and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient use.
- Participate in special projects, exhibition builds, and client events as assigned.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Chauffeur’s license
- Ability to operate a 26ft DOT truck
- 2–4 years of professional art handling, installation, or related logistics work
Preferred:
- Carpentry experience and familiarity with woodworking and power tools
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and collaboration across departments
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective verbal communication and courteous, professional client interaction skills
- Technical aptitude for minor repairs and art handling equipment use
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to make sound decisions under pressure
- Strong judgment, trustworthiness, and discretion in handling valuable inventory
- Ability to operate equipment safely (hand trucks, dollies, forklifts, etc.)
Compensation, Position Type & Travel:
- Full-time hourly position with a very competitive compensation range based on abilities and experience plus the potential to earn quarterly and annual bonuses
- Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:15 pm with at least one Saturday per month required – overtime as needed to support business needs
- Local and out-of-state travel required
