Position Summary

The Senior Financial Accountant oversees the monthly reconciliation of complex cash accounts and general ledger entries.  This role prepares quarterly and annual financial statements and supports schedules for the Agency’s bond, grant, and other programs, and ensures compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal controls. Acting as the primary accountant for designated programs, the Senior Financial Accountant collaborates with Finance and other departments to ensure proper accurate recording of all accounting transactions in the Agency’s general ledger.   When assigned to a bond program, this role works closely with the Treasury and Bond Compliance teams during bond series offering and in processing debt service payments throughout the life of the bond.  The Senior Financial Accountant reports to the Financial Accounting Supervisor.

MassHousing operates under a hybrid work model; therefore, employees are expected to work on-site according to a schedule determined in collaboration with their manager and based on the needs of the role. To support effective onboarding, new employees may be required to work in the office more frequently during their first 90 days.

 

Essential Functions

General Ledger and Reconciliation

  • Reconciles various General Ledger accounts with corresponding subledgers and complex bank accounts
  • Prepares and reviews general ledger entries, ensuring accurate and timely posting to the general ledger  in accordance with the deadlines specified in Financial Reporting production calendar

 Budgeting and Financial Reporting

  • Prepares Annual Budget for designated program(s) with accuracy and promptness
  • Compiles quarterly and annual financial statement packages for programs, including all essential supporting schedules, and ensures all transactions are properly documented and accurately reflected
  • Supports the documentation of business procedures, team workflows, and accounting policies to ensure clarity and compliance

Cross-Department Collaboration and Projects

  • Partners with internal cross-departmental stakeholders to complete work assignments, lead or support special Finance initiatives, and contribute to system enhancements affecting Program Accounting
  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external Finance stakeholders to execute tasks, implement processes, and address issues related to assigned programs
  • Processes and verifies debt service scheduled payments and special bond call payments when applicable
  • Assists in reviewing work completed by junior accountants to offer clarification or feedback as needed

Security

  • Comply with MassHousing’s Information Security Program and all other Agency information security policies and procedures
  • Take responsibility for any Agency assets assigned to you
  • Promptly report any security events, incidents, or weaknesses to MassHousing’s Information Security Team

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years general accounting, fund/investment accounting, banking experience, or other related accounting experience
  • 3+ years of experience with automated General Ledger systems and PC based financial spreadsheets
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements for bond indentures, covenants, contracts, regulatory agreements, applicable laws, and related matters
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel
  • Eligibility to work in, and travel freely to and from, the United States without sponsorship

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
  • Prior experience in financial reporting and financial statement preparation

Salary Range: $86,572.50 - $ 112,544.25
