The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital is comprised of a Level III NICU, a Level IIc nursery and a neonatal transport team, providing medical and surgical care to neonates and their families and serving a broad geographic area within southern Ontario.  The interdisciplinary team provides family-centered care with a strong focus on evidence-based best practice and continuous quality improvement.  McMaster NICU is actively involved in a number of collaborative quality improvement initiatives provincially, nationally and internationally.


The Neonatal Dietetic Assistant position would include: assisting in developing/monitoring nutrition care plans with a focus on the care of pre-term and term neonates with complex nutritional needs while, overseeing of the Milk Preparation Room, including the analysis, preparation and fortification of breast milk and formula, inventory, stocking and the entering of orders into Meditech. This role would be responsible for feeding guidelines as well as policy and procedures compliance audits as they relate to the feeding of infants in the nurseries. Participation in student education and research as required.

1. Baccalaureate Degree in Applied Human Nutrition or College Diploma in Food Service Administrative Technology
2. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with the development and application of nutritional care plans in various populations
3. Proficient in computer literacy skills for advanced technology specializing in Nutrition and Food Services, eg. CBORD
4. Excellent communication, organization, problem -solving, conflict resolution and time management skills
5. Minimum of 2 years experience in Pediatrics preferred
