About the Role:
The Registered Nurse (RN) Casual / As Needed position in the Inpatient Unit plays a critical role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care within a hospice setting. This role focuses on providing skilled nursing care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring comfort and dignity in accordance with hospice philosophy. The RN will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that address physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as this casual position requires the nurse to respond to fluctuating patient census and staffing needs. Ultimately, the RN contributes to enhancing the quality of life for patients and supporting their families during challenging times through expert clinical care and empathetic communication.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Ability to work flexible hours on an as-needed basis, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Hospice and Palliative Nursing (CHPN) or equivalent specialty certification.
- Experience working in an inpatient hospice or palliative care unit.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Additional training in grief counseling or psychosocial support.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing assessments and deliver direct patient care in alignment with hospice principles and standards.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions safely and accurately while monitoring patient responses.
- Collaborate with physicians, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate holistic care plans.
- Educate patients and families about disease progression, symptom management, and available support resources.
- Document all nursing activities, patient conditions, and care plans thoroughly and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient status and escalate concerns to appropriate team members.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with hospice care best practices.
