Job description:
This role is the senior overseer on the IT team, ensuring that our agile framework and infrastructure strategy add value across ASCP. The Senior Director facilitates a Design Thinking approach in our initiatives and leads secure, scalable digital transformation aligned with ASCP’s mission in pathology and laboratory medicine. This role exercises ‘influence without authority’ and is a coach to less experienced staff.
The Senior Director attracts, develops, and leads a diverse team of staff and consultants, business analysts, product owners, QA professionals, DBAs, IT operations, and helpdesk professionals. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is a peer to the I&T leaders of the development, infrastructure, and operations teams.
Essential Functions
- Oversee infrastructure and hybrid-cloud environments (AWS, Private Cloud), virtualization (VMware/HyperV), and endpoint security
- Lead enterprise system implementation (e.g., Shopify), ensure DR/BCP planning and ITSM adherence
- Ensure cybersecurity compliance (HIPAA and industry best practices)
- Coach direct reports, and encourage their personal and professional development
- Collaborate with leaders of Development, Infrastructure, and Operations, as catalyst for developing a strengths-based culture in the IT team
- Communicate project status and roadblocks, manage constituent expectations
- Ensure adoption and value of agile strategies and practices (including Product Backlog, Sprint Review, Product Refinement, Sprint Retrospective)
- Facilitate a cohort of Agile Product Owners inside and outside IT
- Embed the team into key stakeholder groups at ASCP, to listen and learn
- Improve existing processes, and/or create new routes, to accomplish goals
- Make progress, and deliver results, even in ambiguous situations
- Motivate the team to maximize personal and team efficiency; integrate full-time staff and consultants into a cohesive unit
- Combine technical expertise and compassionate empathy for the benefit of internal and external customers
- Balance competing priorities, and facilitate deliberation toward consensus
- Sponsor new ideas, creative solutions, and collaborative approaches
- Manage IT vendor relationships, contracts, and budgets
- Monitor and report on IT performance metrics, SLAs, and system uptime
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 6+ years of leading in Information Technology or related setting, including 3+ years managing teams, budgets, and vendors—preferably at the Senior Manager or Director level.
- Experience in Agile environments, preferably as Senior Product Owner or team leader desirable
- Preferred certifications: PMP, ITIL, CISSP, AWS
