The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.


POSITION PURPOSE:

The Athletics staff is responsible for providing for the social, emotional and educational needs of each LJCC player and the group as a whole during each sport/league season.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics and the Athletics Coordinator, the Athletic staff are responsible for supporting, conducting, and supervising a variety of athletic programs such as Youth Soccer Leagues, Youth Basketball Leagues and NFL Flag Football leagues.


Responsibilities:

  • Participate in staff training prior to the beginning of the program.
  • Coach, referee and keep score as deemed necessary.
  • Assist in the set-up/clean-up of all activities.
  • Take initiative to analyze and solve problems.
  • Supervise children in weekly activities.
  • Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Interact with parents in a professional and polite manner.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by Director of Athletics.


Decision Making by Co-determination:

The Athletic Staff makes independent decisions when necessary regarding responsiveness to program user needs and concerns regarding program content and delivery, program materials needed, as well as managing the multiple functions of the individual programs under your supervision. The Athletic staff communicate on a regular basis with and support the guidance and direction offered by the Director of Athletics and when necessary, the Program Director. The Athletic staff consults with the Director of Athletics and when necessary, the Program Director, on decision making regarding the daily functioning of the Athletic department, apprising the Director of Athletics and when necessary, the Program Director, of any challenges that are currently being faced in a timely manner.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

The Athletic staff must:


Demonstrate skills in leadership, effective management strategies, and organization, creativity, and flexibility, excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills necessary to work with adults.


Possess knowledge of or willingness to learn, Judaic culture and traditions including but not limited to Jewish holidays, rituals, and customs.


Possess the ability to articulate the influences of Judaic culture on our programs to members and staff. Be sensitive to cultural differences, demonstrate flexibility and enthusiasm in work style, create a positive and harmonious workplace, effectively manage time and responsibilities, and understand individual leadership styles and their influence on the well-being of the department staff.

Must also have the ability to work as part of a team with other staff members and JCC members. Must promote high standards of program excellence; resolve conflict effectively and demonstrate maturity as well as the ability to get along with a variety of people; respond effectively to constructive criticism and give constructive feedback to colleagues, and ensure that an environment which fosters maximum physical, social, cognitive and emotional development is developed and maintained. Must be able to approach each day with a customer centric mindset and be able to engage and promote ongoing relationships.

Must be physically capable of manual labor that includes lifting, bending, and reaching. Must be able to operate Athletic equipment and machinery. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Must be able to reach overhead and to the floor repeatedly in a shift. Must be able to work 8 hour shifts standing. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Rising 9th grader or higher.
  • Athletic and/or leadership experience.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with children.
  • Good character and integrity.
  • Positive physical and mental health.
  • The desire to work with children in a sports setting.
  • Commit to building a safe, child-focused community.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.
  • Ability to take guidance and supervision.
  • Knowledge of sports skills and the ability to transmit/teach skills to children.
  • Ability to relate to other staff, children, and parents.
  • Be flexible and ready to meet changing work needs and demands.
  • Be open to feedback and desire to grow professionally.
