The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for the physical protection and security of the company’s property and assets, and the safety of employees, residents, and customers.
The Director will oversee security for all BPG properties in Delaware. This includes the protection of residential and commercial properties, implementing and enforcing security policy, providing advice and recommendations concerning security concerns, supervising security staff, security/safety education briefings, policy development and enforcement.
BPG Director of Security Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain the communication line with BPG Senior Managers keeping them informed of any related safety or security issues involving any BPG property, personnel, resident or tenant
- Ensure 24/7 emergency phone is always charged and attended
- Oversee daily operations of 70 direct report guards
- Hiring that includes application paperwork, interview, clearing applicant through HR, background check, distribution of uniforms, training, and discipline
- Collect timesheets and enter and approve payroll hours in ADP then make any payroll corrections during that are needed after paydays
- Work with Supervisor on weekly scheduling and finding fill-ins when needed including off hours, weekends and vacation
- Obtain sizes and clothing needs, create order, sort, inventory and distribute uniforms
- State of Delaware guard licensing monthly roster, request for information on guards having expired licenses or violations that need to be addressed for any non-BPG sites
- Direct street patrol teams to proactively monitor areas surrounding company properties.
- Deploy resources effectively to address issues such as trespassing, loitering, and panhandling in public spaces adjacent to properties.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and community safety organizations when needed.
- Recruit, train, and supervise security personnel for both the command center and field patrols.
- Establish performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and foster a culture of vigilance, professionalism, and accountability.
- Provide ongoing training in conflict resolution, de-escalation, emergency response, and legal compliance.
- Check sites on a rotating basis to inspect desk areas and guards
- Command Center Oversight
- Manage daily operations of the security command center, ensuring constant monitoring of live camera feeds from all properties.
- Establish and maintain clear protocols for responding to observed incidents in real time.
- Ensure accurate incident logging, reporting, and escalation procedures.
- Crime Prevention & Safety Strategy
- Develop and implement proactive security strategies to reduce crime and nuisance activity in front of company buildings.
- Analyze incident trends and recommend targeted prevention measures, such as environmental design changes, lighting improvements, or patrol adjustments.
- Ensure security plans comply with local laws and regulations while maintaining a customer-friendly environment.
- Crisis & Incident Response
- Serve as the primary decision-maker during major security incidents, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external agencies.
- Oversee post-incident investigations, documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Ensure rapid communication with property management teams regarding ongoing or potential threats.
- Receive complaints on our guards from building managers, clients, residents. Interview all parties involved, investigate any physical evidence (cameras) and administer corrective action or terminate. Send to HR for approval and administer
- BPG Site Criminal Issues – thefts from buildings or vehicles, homeless, trespassers, cameras, drug investigations,
- Assist other BPG Departments or BPGS with criminal and non-criminal issues. Anything from seeking advice or direction to closing down a street for a construction truck delivery.

- Prepare invoices for each property and email to proper BPG Departments
- Develop and administer security and safety procedures and prepare manuals outlining regulations and establish procedures for granting personnel and visitor access to buildings.
- Workers Comp investigations, filings, forms
- Creating and maintaining client site folders – post orders, contracts, emails of any issues
- Create, maintain, update Emergency Action Procedures and Active Shooter responses for every building
- Lease and Maintain vehicles: gas cards and invoices, schedule and drop off cars for preventive maintenance and/or oil changes, replace wipers, replace headlight bulbs, replace of fix flat tires
- Oversee BPG Express Shuttle operation including driver, maintenance and repair, cleaning and scheduling and fielding/resolving customer complaints
- Renew State of Delaware Level II Driving Restriction Waiver
- Maintain liaison with Law Enforcement – Agencies we have worked with include WPD, DSP, NCCPD, Phila PD, Governors Drug Task Force, FBI, Secret Service. Answering subpoenas, researching camera video, assisting with search warrants, identifying vehicles and tenants
Job Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Law Enforcement or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of progressive security management experience, preferably in real estate, corporate, or law enforcement settings.
- Proven ability to lead both command center operations and field security teams.
- Strong understanding of security technology, including CCTV systems, access control, and dispatch software.
- Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, and ability to make rapid, sound decisions under pressure.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with tenants, employees, law enforcement, and the public.
- Must have experience liaising with law enforcement.
- Maintain current State of Delaware Security license.
- Proven ability to remain calm in an emergency .
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Combination of office and field work.
- Occasional evening, night, weekend, and holiday work required. Willingness to respond to calls and make decisions off-hours.
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods and respond quickly to incidents.
