Description

Summary: In 2024, Navigate360 unveiled NORA, our modern digital assistant that is connected to your Navigate360 data and our unrivaled expertise in threat detection and mitigation that has provided insights and analysis for thousands of digital alerts in Digital Threat Detection.  The Data Science and Solutions team is now developing new agents, tools, and data sources and structures to make NORA even more powerful and useful for our thousands of K-12 schools.  We are hiring a new Senior Data and AI Systems Engineer to lead the integration of data, large language models, vector search and agentic APIS into NORA’s ecosystem, all while keeping our customers very sensitive data isolated, secure, and used only to help our trained K-12 professionals get the information they need as quickly and accurately as possible.

There will be very few opportunities in the current Data and AI space where you can help build a business whose sole mission is to keep our K-12 schools, campuses, teachers, children and community safe and secure.  Our mission is zero incidents and you will help our customers integrate Navigate360’s entire product portfolio, from emergency management to digital threat detection, into a data-powered, intelligent system that is easy to use and most of all, trustworthy.

You will be building on and contributing to a large amount of work already completed, so the successful candidate should be able to work well with a remote team, have muscle memory with tools like Jira, Github, AWS storage and endpoint configuration, and especially 3 or more years experience building enterprise-class systems in Databricks. Our platform is built on the Databricks lakehouse ‘medallion architecture’, MLFlow for traditional machine learning tasks, and Mosaic AI and other components of the stack for serving agentic applications on the AWS cloud.  We are building for multi-tenancy and secure data isolation and privacy controls in Unity Catalog.  If you have gotten this far in this paragraph, and already have a picture in your head of what we are building, then you should definitely apply for the position.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement data integration pipelines to connect new data sources and structures to NORA’s ecosystem using Databricks lakehouse ‘medallion architecture’.
  • Develop automation to deploy and maintain secure, multi-tenant data architectures with Unity Catalog to ensure customer data isolation and privacy.
  • Deploy and optimize agentic APIs to support NORA’s digital assistant functionalities, integrating large language models and vector search capabilities using Langchain running on Databricks Mosaic AI Agent framework.
  • Contribute to the development of new agents and tools that support planned and emerging customer scenarios, such as integration with Navigate360 apps and content, retrieving and rendering complex datasets, etc.
  • Partner with data science to build on our system to measure, monitor and enhance performance, ensuring high availability, trustworthiness, and reliability of NORA’s threat detection and mitigation capabilities.
  • Partner with infrastructure engineering to deploy and manage AWS endpoints to support scalable, secure, and high-performance data and AI systems.
  • Implement and test data security protocols to safeguard sensitive K-12 customer data, ensuring compliance with privacy standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering best practices in enterprise-class system development on Databricks and AWS.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and public (i.e., Github) portfolio in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in AWS cloud services, including storage and endpoint configuration.
  • Experience with MLFlow for managing traditional machine learning workflows.
  • Hands-on expertise with large language models, vector search, and agentic API development.

  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with Databricks, including advanced proficiency with Mosaic AI and other Databricks stack components for agentic applications.
  • Prior experience in the K-12 education sector or with systems focused on safety, security, or threat detection.
  • Proven expertise in optimizing large language models and vector search systems for performance and scalability in enterprise environments.
  • Experience mentoring or leading small teams of engineers in building data-driven or AI-powered solutions.
