Employment Status: Part-Time

FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 am – 2:30 p.m. 13 hours a week (may vary)

Reports to: KDO Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY 

The Assistant Teacher will support the Lead Teacher in delivering a nurturing and enriching educational experience to young children in a Catholic Kid’s Day Out program. This role involves assisting with daily activities, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting the spiritual and moral development of children in alignment with Catholic teachings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Classroom Support:
    • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate educational activities and curriculum.
    • Help manage classroom activities and maintain a safe, organized, and stimulating environment.
    • Provide individual and small group support to students as needed.
  2. Student Engagement:
    • Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere that encourages student engagement and participation.
    • Support children in developing social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
    • Encourage and model positive behavior, conflict resolution, and respect for others.
  3. Religious Education:
    • Assist in incorporating Catholic teachings, prayers, and values into daily activities.
    • Participate in and support religious celebrations, liturgies, and activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.
    • Promote and model Catholic values in interactions with students and staff.
  4. Communication and Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other staff members regarding student progress and any concerns.
    • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to address any classroom issues or student needs.
    • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  5. Administrative Duties:
    • Assist with record-keeping, including attendance and student files.
    • Assist with setup and cleanup of classroom and activity areas.
    • Support the implementation of health and safety procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Able to work well with others in the program community
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
  • Skill in job appropriate technology
  • Skill in critical thinking and planning


Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, and pre-school age children
  • Current certification in CPR
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of background check prior to starting employment 

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Required to lift or carry up to ten pounds and at times up to 35 pounds
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
  • Required to walk, kneel, sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily  basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as writing and reading
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement  weather
