Job Title: Digital Infrastructure Systems Engineer

Position Type: Full-Time – 12 months per year 

Reports To: Director of Technology

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Digital Infrastructure Systems Engineer. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong technical background in managing and securing identity, management, and data systems and servers. This role is crucial for ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our digital infrastructure. The Digital Infrastructure Systems Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and future-state planning of our digital infrastructure.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Systems Administration
    • Manage and administer our hybrid identity environment, including but not limited to Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) and on-premises Active Directory
    • Working closely with in-department teams and across district departments, collaborate about user and group lifecycle management, ensuring seamless provisioning, de-provisioning, and access reviews.
    • Assist in implement and enforce digital identity policies, including multi-factor authentication (MFA) and single sign-on (SSO)
    • Manage and administer our virtual compute infrastructure (Nutanix), including managing virtual machine life cycle management (create, upgrade, decommission) and other required tasks
    • Manage, update and administer other servers and systems as assigned including assisting with Google Workspace, OneSync and Cisco Webex Control Hub
    • Manage, update and administer other district servers both on-prem and virtualized / cloud hosted
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM)
    • Administer and manage our MDM solution (Mosyle) to secure and manage school-owned devices.
    • Develop and implement device enrollment, configuration, upgrade and compliance policies, testing as needed before deployment
    • Oversee the deployment of applications and security settings to mobile and desktop devices.
    • Provide support and troubleshooting for MDM-related issues.
  • Data Systems
    • Collaborate with district teams to plan, design, and manage the architecture of our IT data systems and data flow.
    • Work with district teams to ensure data integrity, security, and availability through effective backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
    • Manage data-related projects, such as migrations, upgrades, backups and new implementations.
    • Proactively engineer, implement, and monitor security measures, including vulnerability management and remediation, across all digital infrastructure and third-party platforms.
  • Student Focus and Communication
    • Maintains a clear focus on student learning and success when making technical infrastructure decisions, ensuring that technology systems enhance instruction, safety, and equity rather than simply serving operational needs.
    • Ability to communicate and highlight technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Analytical problem solver with a keen attention to detail and the ability to view complex issues from both technical and business perspectives.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory in a hybrid environment.
  • Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM), specifically with Mosyle, is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to automate system tasks and streamline operations using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash)
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to oversee and manage multiple projects from inception to implementation
  • Demonstrated experience in managing virtualized computing  systems
  • Knowledge of identity and access management concepts and protocols (SAML, OAuth, etc).
  • Experience using and managing multiple platforms including Windows Server, macOS, iPadOS, and Linux

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+  years of experience in information technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Relevant Industry Certifications are a plus  (CompTIA A+ CompTia Server+, CompTia Hybrid Server 1 and 2, NCA, SC-300, etc)
