About the Department
Expected salary $23.58 to $31.49. Full salary range $23.58 to $39.39.
Associate’s degree from an accredited college in legal studies, paralegal studies, or closely related field.
OR
A combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Position Duties
At the direction of attorneys and other supervisory staff, performs support work involving the knowledge and application of specialized procedures, statutes, regulations, and records pertaining to the Office of the County Attorney. Ensures that attorneys have the materials required for all court hearings, i.e pleadings, evidence and discovery disclosed. This particular position will also perform as a back up to the reception desk, answering phone, distributing mail and assisting any individuals at the counter. Performs tasks with minimal supervision and periodic review. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
Minimum Qualifications
- May attend court and administrative hearings.
- Prepares pleadings, notices and other documents in cases from attorney notes and requests.
- Request materials such as audio, video and photos submitted from other agencies.
- Prepares legal documents for attorney signature and e-filing with the court.
- Discloses all discovery to defense attorney or pro se defendant via data management system.
- Opens and assigns new incustody and routine criminal cases.
- Processes supplement reports.
- Answers multi line phone system.
- Distributes daily mail.
- Assists individuals at front desk counter.
- Creates and maintains files.
- Obtains information, composes responses, and completes legal documents.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of general legal, administrative, and procedural matters involving the Office of the County Attorney
- Knowledge of legal research methods
- Knowledge of forms and terminology relating to the office
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling and composition, and business math
- Skill in the use of computers and technology
- Ability to make decisions and work under deadlines in accordance with the functions of the office
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and agencies
- Ability to relate to the public in a productive manner
