Job Summary: The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is distinct among United States Attorney's Offices due to the breadth and scale of its work. It acts as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. Locally, it handles cases ranging from misdemeanor drug possession to murders, while federally, it handles cases ranging from child pornography to gang, financial fraud, and terrorism. The Office represents the district in civil suits.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: To qualify as a GS-11 you must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, or 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-09 Federal level or a combination. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as planning and applying criminal investigative analysis to research, retrieve, and develop investigative findings in support of ongoing criminal investigations; using the latest technological and investigative strategies to gather and analyze evidence, particularly social media evidence; communicating and working with attorneys and law enforcement in determining investigative strategies, sharing intelligence, and preparing for trial and other court proceedings; interviewing witnesses, law enforcement officials, and technical subject-matter experts to gather intelligence; creating audio-visual materials as well as compiling documents, evidence and audio-visual materials demonstrating analytical findings; reporting and publishing facts clearly, concisely, accurately and logically, both orally and in writing. OR Education: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: a combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
