What is the focus of the role?

At Telstra, we have over 250 physical stores located across Australia that serve our customers on a daily basis. The Retail Store Technology and Support function has core responsibility and ownership of our future IT and technology roadmap for our stores and how we can digitise the stores for the future.

Within this group, the Store Technology Manager will be responsible for driving technological advancements and innovative solutions within the Telstra's physical retail stores. The focus of the role is to own a roadmap of projects which enhance the customer experience and operational efficiency.

This role involves identifying emerging technologies domestically and internationally, evaluating their potential impact from a financial, customer and agent lens, and integrating them into the physical store environment.

The lead collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and implement cutting-edge retail technologies, such as AI, IoT, and mobile solutions, ensuring they align with business objectives and market trends. Additionally, the role requires staying abreast of industry developments, fostering a culture of innovation, and continuously seeking opportunities to leverage technology for competitive advantage and improved service delivery.

Role Purpose

As a Store Technology Manager, you're passionate about driving technological advancements and fostering a culture of innovation within the physical environment. You will work on identifying and integrating emerging technologies to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency, working effectively with minimal supervision and within a collaborative team environment.

You will bring extensive experience having worked within large retailers or consultancy firms and a deep understanding of physical stores operations at scale. Along with your growth mindset, can-do attitude, and ability to interact effectively with senior executive personnel are pivotal to achieving success in your role.

What You'll do

  • Own the technology/IT roadmap for Telstra Retail physical stores and associated capex spend with accountability for delivering projects on time and on budget
  • Identify and evaluate emerging retail technologies
  • Business case ideas to determine their potential impact and applicability within the organisation
  • Prepare and present these opportunities to executive level management to gain support in executing these opportunities
  • Collaborate with external agencies and consultants as well as assessing market research and competitor analysis to develop the retail technology strategy for Telstra with focus on enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, marketing, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of new technologies
  • Foster a culture of innovation by encouraging creative thinking and continuous improvement within the team
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and best practices to keep the organisation at the forefront of retail technology
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technology vendors and partners to leverage external expertise and resources
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of implemented technologies, making adjustments as necessary to optimise outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards in the implementation of new technologies
  • Train and mentor team members to build their skills and knowledge in retail technology innovation
  • Drive the strategic vision for retail technology innovation, aligning it with the organisation's overall goals and objectives

  • Extensive experience working in or with large organisations who have a physical retail presence
  • Strong commercial acumen

  • Strong presentation skills at executive level
  • Experience in collaborating with a wide group of stakeholders across a large and complex organisation
