We are a high-growth Series-B InsurTech start-up using data and machine learning to revolutionize the insurance industry. You will be joining a strong and mission driven team, working to build a customer facing product that fundamentally changes the way insurers evaluate risk, enabling them to move from highly manual workflows to digital risk flows. Cytora’s Risk Stream is a serverless and cloud native SaaS platform that automates the digitisation, evaluation and decisioning of risks for commercial insurers. Our product drastically improves the working lives of our users, enables our customers to cover more risks, more competitively.

The Role

You will be helping to build Cytora’s Underwriting Productivity Suite, a serverless based web application that increases the efficiency and effectiveness of underwriters thereby reducing expense ratios and delivering profitable growth to our customers.

Our team is multidisciplinary, composed of UX designers, Data Scientists, frontend/backend engineers, and product managers working together to build powerful solutions that allow our clients to integrate Cytora’s data and automation features into their insurance workflows.

Along with core technical skills, we are excited about colleagues who bring passion for the craft of inventing and building products from the ground up. This means providing feedback to product managers and the wider company, contributing to roadmaps, and bringing your creativity to bear by suggesting features and improvements based on your technical understanding of what is possible and needed. As the technical face of our product, we are looking for someone who is customer-centric, values-driven, and collaborative with great communication skills.

What working as a Senior Engineer at Cytora looks like:

  • Liaise with product and delivery managers to understand client requirements.
  • Design, develop and implement backend services and APIs using Python, Flask and FastAPI.
  • Optimise the existing codebase to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team to deliver efficient solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain high code quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues in the backend system.
  • Contribute to high level technical architecture discussions and take opportunities to mentor and coach less experienced colleagues.

Requirements

  • Significant experience* building and maintaining production-grade web applications
  • Commercial experience with our stack
  • We know that years of experience ≄ level of skill, and we will consider candidates from a range of backgrounds. However, it is unlikely that candidates without several years of hands-on experience building software products will be able to contribute autonomously to our product.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with APIs and services
  • Hands on experience working with document extraction and/or LLMs

Cytora are a remote-first company. For this role you can be based anywhere in the UK or EU provided you 1. have fluent spoken and written English, and 2. have the permanent right to work without requiring visa sponsorship.
