The Security Operations Center is looking for a Software Engineer to be a part of our Development group within our SOC. This individual will be tasked in helping mature our processes and procedures for the development group along with maintaining and advancing our in-house developed product for our Security operations Center. This product’s main adjective is to organize, streamline, and automate work for our operational teams that use the product.

This role requires ability to architect innovative solutions and coordinate development across multiple projects within EIS and reports to the Senior Manager of Cybersecurity Software Development for the Security Operations Center. Candidate expectation is self-starter, highly organized and detail orientated; seek opportunities to improve, enhance and evolve SOC Operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and implements solutions that exemplify modern software engineering practices
  • Enhances system design/architecture to simplify and improve resiliency in system interactions and dependencies
  • Mentors junior team members in modern engineering practices, technologies, and patterns
  • Maintains current perspective on technology trends, applying that to personal and team capability growth. Actively participate in code review
  • Champions “automation first” mentality throughout engineering and operations practices
  • Drives code reuse and contribution strategy for span of control; minimizes redundant development
  • Has solid familiarity with many technologies and shares this with others
  • Grow and mature automated response processes in the Security Operations Center
  • Support cross team collaboration across EIS to drive execution of initiatives. Distribute and provide technical material and updates to leadership
  • Drive increased productivity first through operational excellence (e.g. organizational model, process engineering, automations, project management discipline) vs adding additional resources
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned
  • Generally work is self-directed and not prescribed
  • Works with less structured, more complex issues
  • Serves as a resource to others

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a technical discipline such as solution architect, development, systems engineering, or networking
  • 2+ years of experience with programming in Golang
  • 2+ years of experience with Javascript and at least one JS framework (Vue, React, Angular)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with network design and implementation
  • Proven knowledge of Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps practices
  • Proven knowledge of implementing and operating security controls in commercial Cloud hosting environments including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) products
  • Demonstrated familiarity with AWS Neptune database service or SQL
  • Experience Building serverless web applications
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects focused on innovations and development of information systems and/or security solutions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Software Certifications: AWS, GCP, Azure
  • Experience working in security operations, cyber defense, or application security
  • Data engineering experience
  • Familiarity with container orchestration and message queue platforms including Kubernetes and Docker

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
