Shape tomorrow's STEM innovators today.What difference will you make?As an EPQ Academic Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in broadening your mentee's horizons, inspiring them to explore new ideas and possibilities beyond their current perspectives.What are we looking for?Essential Skills Expertise in relevant academic fields Advance communication skills, both written and oral. Compassionate, engaging, approachable and capable of active empathic listening, to foster a positive mentor-mentee relationship. Passion to motivate and coach, understanding needs and capabilities of the programme participants. Experience in the education sector and collaborating with young people (ages 15-18). Desirable Skills A proven track record in a profession with or an equivalent qualification. Familiarity with the G-suite - Google docs, Google Sheets, Google Meet.What will you be doing?Guide and support a mentee through their chosen STEM EPQ route (dissertation, investigation/field study, or artefact) Assist in refining the mentee's project title and scope Provide feedback on the mentee's literature review and project plan Attend four compulsory milestone meetings (Commission, Progression, Evaluation, and Reflection) and any additional agreed-upon meetings Monitor the mentee's progress and conduct interim reviews to ensure work authenticity Offer guidance, advice, feedback, motivation, and emotional support throughout the project Act as a role model, sharing skills, knowledge, and expertise Review and sign off on the mentee's project proposal form Assist the mentee in meeting Edexcel's EPQ marking criteria Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures Current projects in need of a mentor are as follows - Spitfire/aeroplane design and WW2 - How did data analysis revolutionise sport? - Can dance improve mental health outcomes in young people?
